The vision and passion to create Twist & Hit Cheerleaders was the aspiration of local resident Sarah McNeill.
With over 15 years experience as an athlete and coach and has seen first-hand how cheerleading can truly change lives. As an athlete and coach at Inverclyde Sirens Cheerleaders since 2002 she brought the dream of an All-Star Programme to Renfrewshire in 2014.
She has also worked with incredible staff at Future Cheer and Legacy Cheer and Dance since 2007 where she was worked at major events all over the UK with various roles including warm-up and judging.
As a coach, [and inspired by her experience with Legacy Cheer & Dance], the way she feels gifted
and equipped to do this is through the sport of cheerleading. This is why at Twist & Hit Cheerleaders the unofficial motto is “Eat. Sleep. Train. Repeat” Sarah wants to use the sport of cheerleading as a tool: to empower young people, to raise their self-esteem and to help them realise their potential as unique, loved individuals.
The dream is to eventually build a programme that includes multiple competitive squads (including a Special Needs team), communityrecreational classes, schools coaching, mentoring and the provision to subsidise fees in order to help provide access to the activities
regardless of income.
As part of the realisation of this vision, in April 2016 Twist & Hit Cheerleaders registered with Engage Renfrewshire to seek out guidance on accesing funding to support scholarships and subsidised fees.
